As a parent who has lost a young child, I felt it was my God given right and purpose to write this blog. I must speak out to each and every parent who has a child and make YOU aware of the deadly creature that may be lurking inside your home – and you don’t even know it.
The Creature? Window Blinds.
Yes, one child dies every other week in the U.S. alone, due to strangulation – by the cords that are associated in the design, construction and operation of blinds. Blinds of any kind.
Pressure has been applied to the industry and manufacturers for decades now…but children continue to die.
As someone who has been in the industry for over 25 years, I have come to the realization that the only way to truly eliminate this problem is to eliminate the product. Period.
Now, that is obviously a very large endeavor. Most certainly, not an endeavor that I can be successful in accomplishing alone. What I can do, however, is do my part in trying to create change. As a parent and child of God myself, I determined that I too had a responsibility – to make you aware of the dangers – but to also develop and manufacture interior shading systems that would provide a safer environment for children – in their own home or someone else’s home, for that matter.
A parent should never have to hold their dead child in their arms…and they most certainly shouldn’t have to live with the loss of their own creation. Please support us in this endeavor and spread the word. As parents, we all have a responsibility to protect our children, so we never have to live with the regret of not doing something we should have, or could have, done.
Now, I have to live with the fact that I didn’t speak out about this sooner.
